Lough Currane

Lough Currane ist mit ca 10 km² der zweitgrößte See auf der Iveragh Halbinsel (nach Lough Leane). Er ist bei Anglern für seinen Bestand an Lachs und Meeresforelle beliebt. Für Historiker ist speziell Church Island von Interesse, auf der die Überreste einer Klosteranlage stehen, die der Hl. Finan Cam im 7. Jahrhundert gegründet haben soll (Nationales Denkmal #60). Aber leider ist der einzige öffentliche Zugang zum See in einer Bucht am Westende und eine Landzunge versperrt den Blick auf die Insel.
With a size of about 10km² Lough Currane is the second largest lake on the Iveragh Peninsula (after Lough Leane). It is favoured by anglers for its stock of salmon and sea trout. For historian especially Church Island is of interest, on which the remains of a monastery can be found that is said to have been founded by St. Finan Cam in the 7th century (National Monument #60). Alas the only public access to the lake is in a bay at its west end and a cape blocks the view towards the island.
