Entlang des Rings of Kerry gibt es immer wieder Parkplätze mit Aussicht. Wir bleiben bei jedem davon stehen, um die Landschaft zu genießen. Vom Parkplatz am Coomakesta (Com an Chiste) Pass haben wir sogar Ausblick auf beide Seiten: Nach Südosten auf die Derrynane Bucht mit Abbey Island und nach Norden auf das Loher Steinfort.
Dieser Teil von Kerry ist Teil eines Internationalen Lichtschutzgebiets, in dem es keine Lichtverschmutzung gibt und wo daher die Sterne bei klarer mondloser Nacht besonders gut zu erkennen sind. Laut Beschreibungstafel sollen über 4000 Sterne mit freiem Auge sichtbar sein.
Along the Ring of Kerry there are again and again parking places with a view. We make a stop at each and every one of them. From the parking place at Coomakesta (Com an Chiste) Pass we even have a view to both sides: To the south-east over Derrynane Bay with Abbey Island and to the north on the Loher stonefort.
This part of Kerry is part of the International Dark Sky Reserve where there is no light pollution and therefore the stars are especially good discernable on clear moonless nights. According to the descriptive panel over 4000 stars can be seen with the naked eye.
