Valentia Leuchtturm / Valentia Lighthouse

Der 15 Meter hohe Leuchtturm auf Valentia Island wurde 1841 erstmals erleuchtet. Die Leuchtturmwärter und ihre Familien lebten in einem zweistöckigen Haus direkt daneben, bis das Leuchtfeuer 1947 automatisiert wurde. 1966 wurde das Licht elektrifiziert, seit 2016 erhellen LEDs den Turm. Heute ist im Haus ein Museum eingerichtet, in dem wir viel über das Leben und die Arbeit der Leuchtturmwärter erfahren und wir dürfen unsere Morsekünste an einer Aldislampe ausprobieren.
The lighthouse on Valentia Island measures 15 metres in heights and was lit for the first time in 1841. The lighthouse keepers and their families lived in a two-storey house directly beside it, until the light was fully automated in 1947. In 1966 the light was electrified, since 2016 LEDs illuminate the tower. Today a museum is establish in the house in which we learn a lot about the life and work of the lighthouse keepers and we can try our Morse skills with an Aldis lamp.
