Illaunloughan

Im Portmagee Kanal zwischen Portmagee und Valentia Island liegt die kleine Insel Illaunloughan. Auf ihr wurde im 7. Jahrhundert ein Kloster gegründet, das bis ins 9. Jahrhundert bestand. Danach wurde die Insel bis ins 19. Jahrhundert als Begräbnisstätte verwendet.

Wir begnügen uns mit einem Blick durch die Kameralinse und können so gut den giebelförmigen Schrein erkennen, in dem früher Reliquien aufbewahrt wurden.

In the Portmagee channel between Portmagee and Valentia Island there is the small island of Illaunloughan. In the 7^th century a monastery was founded on it that existed until the 9^th century. Afterwards the island was used for burials until the 19^th century.

We settle with a look through the camera lens and can easily see the gabled shrine where once relics were kept.
