Cromwells Fort / Cromwell's Fort

Das Artilleriefort wurde 1653 gebaut, um den Hafen von Valentia zu beschützen, wurde aber bereits 1669 wieder aufgegeben. Die sternförmige Anlage ist leider nur aus der Luft als solche zu erkennen, aber der Graben und der Erdwall entlang der Mauer sind auch vom Boden aus gut sichtbar. Zwei der originalen Kanonen sind noch heute zu sehen.
The artillery fort was built in 1653 to protect Valentia Harbour, but was already abandoned in 1669. The star-shaped construction can only be perceived as such from the air, but the fosse and the earthworks along the wall can be seen easily from ground level. Two of the original cannons are still on display.
