An dieser Stelle sollte der Altazimut Stein (bzw. eine Replik davon) stehen, der in der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts zur Bestimmung der Längengrade der Erde verwendet wurde. Aber leider ist nicht viel von ihm auffindbar.
Wer den Wiki-Artikel nicht lesen möchte: Altazimut ist eine Vorrichtung, mit der ein Teleskop unabhängig von einander um zwei Achsen gedreht werden kann. Das Wort setzt sich zusammen aus Altitude (Höhenwinkel) und Azimut (Horizontalwinkel).
On this spot there should be the Altazimuth Stone (resp. a replica of it) that was used in the middle of the 19th century to determine the longitudes of Earth. Alas, there is not much to see.
If you do not want to read the Wiki page: An Altazimuth is a device to mount a telescope so that it can be independently turned around two axes. The word is composed from altitude angle (angle of elevation) and azimuth (compass bearing).
