Nachdem er 1807 ein tragisches Schiffsunglück beobachtet hatte, erfand Henry Trengrouse aus Cornwall einen speziellen Rettungswagen. Das Rettungsseil konnte mit Hilfe einer Rakete bis zu 200 Meter weit hinaus aufs offene Meer geschossen werden, um dann entweder das Boot oder auch Mannschaftsmitglieder zurück an Land ziehen zu können. Im Wagen waren auch noch andere benötigte Gegenstände verstaut, wie Bojen oder Leitern. Die von der Bristol Carriage Company gebauten Rettungswagen waren an der gesamten Küste im Einsatz und retteten bis zum Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts fast 14,000 Leben.
After observing a tragic shipwreck in 1807, the Cornish Henry Trengrouse invented a specialised saftey wagon. The saftey line could be shot up to 200 metres into the open sea propelled by a rocket and then the boat or crew members could be pulled back to land. In the wagon several other needed objects were stowed away, like buyos or ladders. The saftey wagons were built by the Bristol Carriage Company and in use all around the coastline saving almost 14.000 lives until the end of the 19th century.
