Duncannon

Das sternenförmige Fort von Duncannon (Dun Canann) wurde Ende des 16. Jahrhunderts auf den Überresten einer normannischen Burg errichtet, um Waterford Harbour vor Angriffen der Spanischen Armada zu schützen. Erst Mitte der 1980er wurde es von der Irischen Armee aufgegeben und dient heute gemeinnützigen Zwecken.
The star-shaped fortress of Duncannon (Dun Canann) was built at the end of the 16th century on the remains of a Norman castle to protect Waterford Harbour against attacks from the Spanish Armada. At the middle of the 1980s it was discontinued by the Irish army and nowadays is used for community purposes.
