Turlough Haus und Museum / Turlough House and Museum

While searching for the round tower, we come to Turlough Park by chance. We are amazed - the park is quite large (about 15 hectares), very beautifully constructed, there are flowers everywhere.

Turlough Park was the family estate of the Fitzgeralds since the middle of the 17^th century. In 1865 Charles Lionel Fitzgerald had a new house built in "Victorian Gothic" style. In the 1990s the family sold the estate to the Mayo County Council, that established the Museum for Country Life with its exhibition about traditions and everyday life in rural Ireland between 1850 and 1950 in newly constructed buildings close to the house. The ground floor of the house is open to visitors, who want to have a closer look at life during the Victorian Age.
