Der Turlough - ein zeitweise ausgetrockneter See - gab dem Anwesen seinen Namen. Durch Aufstauen des Castlebar River 1865 wird er nun ständig mit Wasser gespeist. Am See und im Park stehen verschiedene Kunstwerke, wie auf dem Bild Raon an Tuthail von Colm Brennan.
The estate was named after the Turlough - a temporarily dry lake. By damming the near-by Castlebar River the lake has been fed with water constantly since 1865. At the lake and around the park there are several pieces of art, like the one in the picture called Raon an Tuthail by Colm Brennan.
