St. Tolas Hochkreuz / St. Tolas' High Cross

Auf einem Feld zwischen Kloster und Burg steht St. Tolas Hochkreuz. Es wurde im 12. Jahrhundert errichtet und zeigt oben den gekreuzigten Christus, unten einen Bischof, vielleicht St. Tola selbst. Cromwells Truppen warfen das Kreuz 1651 um. Es wurde 1683 von Michael O'Dea repariert und wieder aufgestellt. 1871 restaurierte die Familie Synge das Hochkreuz.

Ein Teil des Kreuzes war früher abnehmbar (laut Beschreibung der Kopf von Christus) und wurde von der lokalen Bevölkerung als Heilmittel gegen Zahnschmerzen verwendet.

On a field between monastery and castle there stands St. Tola's High cross. It was erected in the 12^th century and depicts in its upper part the crucified Christ and on its lower part a bishop, may St. Tola himself. Cromwell's troops toppled the cross in 1651. It was repaired and re-erected in 1683 by Michael O'Dea. In 1871 the family Synge restore the high cross again.

A part of the cross was once removable (according to the description the head of Christ) and was used by the local population as cure for toothache.
