Rundturm / Round Tower

Der Rundturm wurde im 11. Jahrhundert als Glockenturm und Zufluchtsort für die Mönche errichtet. Seine Höhe soll einst über 30 Meter gewesen sein, aber der Beschuss durch die Truppen Cromwells 1651 reduzierte sie auf etwa ein Drittel. Um 1790 wurde eine Bronzeglocke im Turm gefunden, die verkauft wurde, um die Glocken von Corofin zu erwerben.
The round tower was built in the 11th century as a bell tower and as a refuge for the monks. Its height is estimated to have been over 30 metres, but the bombardment by Cromwell's troops in 1651 reduced it to roughly one third. Around 1790 a bronze bell was found in the tower that was sold to purchase the bells of Corofin.
