Die bedeutendsten Aufgaben des Botanischen Gartens sind die wissenschaftliche Erfassung von Pflanzen, der Erhalt von Arten und die Weitergabe von Wissen. Im Herbarium wurden daher mehr als eine halbe Million getrocknete Pflanzenarten aus Irland und dem Rest der Welt zusammengetragen. Das Museum zeigt über 20.000 pflanzenbezogene Exponate wie Samen und Früchten. Die Archive der Bibliothek sind der ideale Ort für die Ausbildung von Jungbotanikern und zum Nachschlagen der gärtnerischen Geschichte Irlands.

Der Baum in der Bildmitte ist eine Kaukasische Zelkove, die schon über hundert Jahre alt und damit einer der ältesten Gewächse im Garten ist.

The most important tasks of the Botanical Gardens are the scientific recording of plants, the preservation of species and the passing on of knowledge. Therefore more than half a million dried species of plants from Ireland and the rest of the world were gathered in the herbarium. The museum shows more than 20,000 exhibits that are related to plants like seeds and fruits. The archive of the library is the ideal place for the education of young botanists and for consultations regarding the horticultural history of Ireland.

The tree in the middle of the picture is a Caucasian zelkova that is older than one hundred years and is therefore one of the oldest plants in the garden.
