Als wir dann noch weiter weg von Keadew (Céideah) Richtung Ballyfarnan (Béal Átha Fearnáin) fahren, kommen wir endlich zur alten Kiche von Kilronan. Auf dem Lageplan aller Gräber ist das von O'Carolan schnell gefunden (Nr. 264). Es liegt in einem kleinen, von einer Mauer umgebenen Bereich direkt neben den Ruinen der Kirche.
Mit 18 Jahren erblindete O'Carolan an Pocken. Mrs. MacDermot Roe, die Gutsherrin, für die sein Vater arbeitete, ermöglichte ihm eine Ausbildung als Harfenspieler. Er zog fast 50 Jahre lang durch Irland und komponierte über 200 Lieder. Mit seiner Frau Mary und seinen Kindern wurde er schließlich in der Nähe von Mohill seßhaft. 1738 verstarb O'Carolan im Alter von 68 Jahren, doch seine Musik lebt bis heute weiter. Zu Ehren des letzten Barden Irlands wird jährlich ein Harfenfestival gefeiert.
When we drive farther away from Keadew (Céideah) towards Ballyfarnan (Béal Átha Fearnáin), we finally arrive at the old church of Kilronan. On the position plan of all graves the one of O'Carolan (no. 264) is easily found. It lies in a small zone surrounded by a wall directly beside the ruins of the church.
At the age of 18 years O'Carolan was blinded by smallpox. Mrs. MacDermot Roe, the lady of the manor for whom his father was working, allowed him an education as harp player. He toured through Ireland for almost 50 years and composed over 200 songs. With his wife Mary and his seven children he finally settled down near Mohill. In 1738 O'Carolan deceased at the age of 68, but his music lives on to this day. To honour the last bard of Ireland each year a harp festival is celebrated.
