Halle des Roten Grafen / Hall of the Red Earl

Seit dem frühen 13. Jahrhundert herrschte die Anglo-Normannische de Burgo Familie über Galway. Die Halle des Roten Grafen (Halla an Iarla Rua), die nach Richard de Burgo, alias der Rote Graf, benannt wurde, war ein wichtiges Gemeindehaus in der Stadt und wurde für die Steuererhebung, als Gerichtssaal und als Stadthalle verwendet. Im 15. Jahrhundert wurden die de Burgos von den lokalen Clans entmachtet, das Gebäude verfiel und geriet in Vergessenheit. Bis es am Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts durch Zufall bei einem Bauprojekt entdeckt wurde und bis heute Archäologen als auch Besuchern einen Blick in des Leben der einstigen Epoche ermöglicht.
Since the early 13th century the Anglo-Norman family de Burgo ruled over Galway. The Hall of the Red Earl (Halla an Iarla Rua), named after Richard de Burgo (a.k.a. the Read Earl), was a major municipal building of the town and was used to collect taxes, as courthouse and as town hall. In the 15th century the Galway Tribes disempowered the de Burgos and the building fell into ruins and was forgotten. Until it was rediscovered by chance during a construction project at the end of the 20th century and allows archeologist as well as visitors a look into the gone-by epoch.
