Das originale Haus auf dem Anwesen brannte Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts ab. Edward, der 2. Earl of Meath, ließ daraufhin Killruddery Haus erbauen. Knapp 200 Jahre später erweiterten es die Architekten Richard und William Morrison im Auftrag von Chambre, dem 10. Earl. Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg musste Anthony, der 14. Earl, ein Drittel des Hauses wegen Trockenfäule abreissen. Der ehemalige Innnenhof ist nun ein kleiner Vorhof (rechts im Bild). Ganz rechts ist auch der Turm mit der Wasseruhr zu sehen, die Reginald Le Normand, der 13. Earl, aus herumliegenden Gegenständen baute.

Bei unserem zweiten Besuch im Juli 2015 gönnen wir uns eine Führung durch das Haus. Eine nette Dame namens Barbara erzählt uns viel über die Geschichte des Hauses und der Familie, und wir sehen all die Kostbarkeiten, die die Familie im Laufe der vergangenen Jahrhunderte angesammelt hat. Es gibt sogar einen Bezug zu Österreich: Kaiserin Elisabeth ("Sisi") hielt sich hier zu Jagdausflügen auf und bedankte sich mit einem Set an Augartenporzellan.

The house that stood originally on the estate burnt down in the middle of the 17^th century. Edward the 2^nd Earl of Meath thereupon had built Killruddery House. Almost 200 years later, the architects Richard and William Morrison expanded it by commission of Chambre the 10^th Earl. After the 2^nd World War, Anthony the 14^th Earl was forced to tear down one third of the house due to dry rot. The former inner court is now the forecourt (on the right side of the picture). Also on the right side you can see the tower with the water clock, which was constructed by Reginald Le Normand the 13^th Earl from objects lying around.

On our second visit in July 2015 we take a guided tour through the house. A nice lady named Barbara tells us much about the history of the house and of the family, and we see a lot of the valuables gathered by the family in the course of the past centuries. There is even a reference to Austria: Empress Elisabeth ("Sisi") often stayed here during hunting jaunts and thanked with a set of porcelain manufactured by Augarten ("river meadow garden") in Vienna.
