Burriscarra Kloster / Burriscarra Friary

In der Nähe der Ortschaft Carrownacon und dem Ufer des Lough Carra, stehen die Überreste einer Kirche und des Klosters von Burriscarra, umgeben von einem Friedhof. Das Kloster wurde 1298 von Adam de Staunton für die Karmeliter gegründet, die etwa 80 Jahre später die Abtei wieder verließen. 1413 ließen sich Augustiner Mönche im Kloster nieder, die es erweiterten. Die heute zu sehenden Überreste stammen aus dieser Zeit. Das Kloster von Buriscarra wurde im 16. Jahrhundert im Zuge der Reformation aufgelöst.
Near to the village of Carrownacon and the banks of Lough Carra stand the remains of a church and of Burriscarra Friary surrounded by a cemetery. The friary was founded in 1298 by Adam de Staunton for the Carmelite order, which left the friary again about 80 years later. In 1413 monks of the Augustinian order settled in the friary and expanded it. The remains that can be seen today come from that time. Buriscarra Friary was suppressed in the 16th century in the course of the Reformation.
