Barnahely Burg / Barnahely Castle

In der Nähe von Ringaskiddy (Rinn an Scidígh, Skiddys Landzunge) fällt uns eine alte Ruine auf. Es sind die Überreste der Burg Barnahely, die im 16. Jahrhundert von der Anglo-Normannischen Familie de Cogan gebaut wurde. Die de Cogans verloren das Anwesen bei der Rebellion von 1641 und es ging in den Besitz der Erzdiakone von Monkstown über. 1796 kaufte die Familie Warren das Land und ließ ein Herrenhaus bei der Burg bauen, die danach Burg Warren genannt wurde. 50 Jahre später verkaufte die Familie das Anwesen. In den Ruinen der Burg wurde eine Frauenfigur in anstößiger Pose (Sheela-na-Gig) gefunden, deren heutiger Aufenthaltsort aber unbekannt ist.

Close to Ringaskiddy (Rinn an Scidígh, Skiddy's headland) we notice an old ruin. These are the remains of Barnahely Castle that was built in the 16^th century by the Anglo-Norman family de Cogan. The de Cogans lost the estate during the rebellion of 1641 and it passed to the ownership of the archdeacons of Monkstown. In 1796 the family Warren bought the land and built a mansion at the castle, which was then called Castle Warren. 50 years later the family sold the estate. In the ruins of the castle a female figure striking an indecent pose (sheela-na-gig) was found, its current where-abouts however are unknown.
