Fanny O'Dea's Pub

Auf dem Weg zum Loop Head fahren wir in Lissycasey an einem knallgelben Pub vorbei, das behauptet, das ältest Pub Irlands in Familienbesitz zu sein. Aber älteste Pubs Irlands haben wir schon einige gesehen. Diese hier wurde 1695 von Donnacha O'Dea eröffnet, einem Mitglied des Clans O'Dea, seinen Namen hat es von seiner Großnichte Fanny, die das Pub berühmt und erfolgreich machte.
Als wir am Abend wieder vorbei kommen und es schon spät ist, beschließen wir einzukehren. Und wie sich herausstellt, ist das gut so, denn einer lokalen Tradition nach, soll es Unglück bringen, wenn man an Fanny O'Dea's vorbeigeht. (Die Geschichte dazu steht auf der Homepage des Pubs, siehe Links.) Das Pub ist heimelig eingerichtet und das Essen ist gut. Nur den Egg Flip lassen wir aus, weil wir noch bis Ennis fahren müssen.
On out way to the Loop Head we pass a bright yellow pub in Lissycasey that claims to be the oldest family-owned pub in Ireland. But oldest pubs in Ireland we have already seen a few. This here was opened in 1695 by Donnacha O'Dea, a member of the Clan O'Dea, and got it's name from his grandniece Fanny, who made the pub famous and successful.
When we pass by again in the evening it is already late and we decide to drop in. And as it turns out that was a good idea, because a local tradition says that it is unlucky to pass Fanny O'Dea's. (The story behind that can be found on the homepage of the pub, see links.) The interior of the pub is cosy and the food it good. But we skip the Egg Flip as we still have to drive back to Ennis.
