Ferrycarrig Burg / Ferrycarrig Castle

Vom Nationalpark aus haben wir einen guten Blick auf die Burg von Ferrycarrig am anderen Ufer der Slaney. Der Fluss ist an dieser Stelle sehr schmal und vor der Errichtung einer Holzbrücke Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts gab es eine Fähre zum Übersetzen. Die Burg wurde im 15. Jahrhundert von der Familie Roche gebaut, um die Fähre zu beschützen.
From the National Park we have a great view of Ferrycarrig Castle on the other bank of the River Slaney. The river is very narrow at this spot and before the first wooden bridge was built at the end of the 18th century, there was a ferry crossing over. The castle was built by the Roche family in the 15th century for the protection of the ferry.
