Ferrycarrig Tower und Fitzstephen Fort / Ferrycarrig Tower and Fitzstephen Fort
While the roundtower at station 16 is old (erected in 1857 as a memorial for the victims of the Crimean War), it is no real roundtower from the first millennium A.D. The real thing, on the other hand, is the ringfort in front of the roundtower. It was built in 1169/1170 by the Norman lord Robert Fitzstephen after he had conquered Wexford town, but could not withstand the attack of the people of Wexford a year later.
