Athenæum

Das Athenæum wurde 1892 als Theater und Rathaus auf Betreiben von Reverend William Fortune erbaut. Das Theater wurde landesweit erfolgreich. 1916 besetzten Rebellen das Athenæum und machten es zu ihrem Hauptquartier. Danach wurde der Betrieb als Theater wieder fortgesetzt, bis es 2004 geschlossen wurde. Doch ein Komitee von Freiwilligen sammelte Spenden für die Restaurierung und 2016 konnte das Athenæum wieder eröffnet werden.

The Athenæum was built in 1892 as theatre and town hall at the instigation of Reverend William Fortune. The theatre gained success all over the country. In 1916 rebels occupied the Athenæum and made it their headquarters. Afterwards, the operation as theatre continued, until it was closed in 2004. However a committee of volunteers raised funds for the restoration and in 2016 the Athenæum could be opened again.
