UNESCO Weltkulturerbe / UNESCO World Heritage Site

Am 16. November 1972 nahm die Generalversammlung der UNESCO den Entwurf zu den Empfehlungen zum Schutz des Kulturerbe und der Naturerbes aller Nationen an. Die wesentlich Idee dabei ist, dass dieses Erbe nicht nur für die jeweilige Nation, sondern für die gesamte Menschheit von Bedeutung ist. Die Liste umfasst bis jetzt über 1200 Güter in 168 Ländern. Die Republik Irland ist mit zwei Gütern auf der Liste, Nordirland mit einem (was mir bei dem Reichtum an historischen Schätzen in Irland eigentlich zu wenig vorkommt).

On November 16th, 1972 the General Conference of UNESCO adopted the Recommendation concerning the Protection at National Level, of the Cultural and Natural Heritage. The essential idea of it is that this heritage is of importance not only for a specific nation, but for all mankind. The list encompasses until now over 1200 properties in 168 countries. The Republic of Ireland has two properties on the list, Northern Ireland has one (which I find it too few considering the rich historical heritage of Ireland).
