Nationale Denkmaeler / National Monuments

Nationale Denkmäler sind historische Strukturen und Anlagen, die als besonders interessant für die Nation eingestuft werden. Sie sind durch Gesetze, die auf dem EU-weiten Valetta Abkommen beruhen, geschützt. In diesen Fällen übernimmt der Staat (speziell das National Monuments Service) die Erhaltung der geschützten Objekte. Der Vorgänger war das Gesetz zum Schutz alter Denkmäler von 1882, das nach der Gründung des Freistaats Irland als Nationales Denkmäler Gesetz übernommen wurde.

Es gibt über 1000 Nationale Denkmäler, jedes hat eine eigene Nummer, wobei auch Gruppen von Denkmälern die gleiche Nummer haben können. Das ist jedoch nur ein kleiner Teil aller in Irland vorhandenen Anlagen, die volle Liste kann über den Historic Environment Viewer eingesehen werden. Das entsprechende Gegenstück für Nordirland ist der Historic Environment Map Viewer.

Natinal Monuments are historic structures and sites that are classified as particularly important to the nation. They are protected by laws based on the EU-wide Valetta Treaty. In these cases the state (especially the National Monuments Service) takes over the preservation of the protected objects. The predecessor was the Ancient Monuments Protection Act 1882 that was taken over as National Monuments Acts 1930 after the founding of the Freestate of Ireland.

There are over 1000 National Monuments, each has its own number, with groups of monuments maybe having the same number. However this is only a small part of all sites existing in Ireland, the complete list can be seen with the Historic Environment Viewer. The corresponding counterpart for Northern Ireland is the Historic Environment Map Viewer.
