Taghboy

Die Kirche auf dem alten Friedhof von Tagboy - auch Taughboy genannt - (Teach Baoith, Haus des Baoth) wird auf das 16. Jahrhundert datiert, manche Teile könnten aber auch noch aus dem 12. Jahrhundert stammen. Die Westwand der Kirche soll Jahrhunderte lang von den Einheimischen zum Spielen von Gälischem Handball (liathróid láimhe) benutzt worden sein.
Aber die Westwand birgt noch ein Geheimnis: Als der Efeu bei Restaurierungsarbeiten entfernt wurde, kam an der Spitze des Giebels eine Sheela-na-Gig zum Vorschein. Leider ist der Efeu bis zu unserem Besuch nachgewachsen und verbirgt die Sheela wieder.
The church on the old cemetery of Tagboy - also called Taughboy - (Teach Baoith, house of Baoth) is dated to the 16th century, some parts could even be from the 12th century. Tradition tells that the west wall of the church was used for playing Gealic handball (liathróid láimhe) for many centuries.
But the west wall hides another secret: When the ivy was removed during restoration works a Sheela-na-Gig was uncovered at the peak of the gable. Alas, the ivy has grown back when we visit the site and the Sheela is hidden again.
