Rahan

Im 5. Jahrhundert gründete der Hl. Camelacus das erste Kloster in Rahan (Raithean, farniger Platz). Im darauf folgenden Jahrhundert wurde das Kloster vom Hl. Carthage (der in einigen Quellen auch Mochuda genannt wird) neu gegründet. Bis heute erhalten sind eine kleine verfallene Kirche und eine größere Kirche, die immer noch in Verwendung ist. Als wir 2006 zum ersten Mal hierher kommen, wird der Weg zu den Kirchen von Stieren verstellt. 2025 haben wir mehr Glück: Es grasen Schafe, die sich mehr vor uns, als wir vor ihnen fürchten.

In the 5th century St. Camelacus founded the first monastery in Rahan (Raithean, farny place). In the following century the monastery was re-founded by St. Carthage (who is also named Mochuda in some sources). Until the present there are a small church in ruins and a larger church that is still in use. When we come here in 2006 for the first time, the path to the churches is blocked by bulls. In 2025 we have more luck: Sheep are grazing and they are more afraid of us then we are of them.
