Die Leiterin der Gartenbau-Gruppe macht uns auf diese Metasequoia glyptostroboides (Urweltmammutbaum oder Chinesisches Rotholz) aufmerksam. Er war nur durch Fossilienfunde bekannt, bis Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts in China ein lebendes Exemplar entdeckt wurde. Birr war der erste Garten in Irland, in dem dieser Baum angepflanzt wurde.
The leader of the agricultural group calls our attention to this Metasequoia glyptostroboides (Dawn Redwood). It was only know through findings of fossils, until a living species was discovered in China in the middle of the 20th century. Birr was the first garden in Ireland in which this tree was planted.
