Westport Haus / Westport House

Eines der sehenswerten Gebäude ist das Westport Haus, das im Auftrag von John Browne vom Architekten Richard Cassels Anfang des 18. Jahrhundert entworfen, und von James Wyatt erweitert wurde. Um Platz für Haus und Park zu bekommen, wurde das originale Dorf Cathair na Mart mit 700 Einwohnern einplaniert.
Westport Haus ist immer noch im Besitz der Familie Browne, die auch Nachfahren der berühmt-berüchtigten Grace O'Malley (Gráinne Ní Mháille) sind. Das Haus und das Anwesen (über 150 Hektar) sind ein ideales Ziel für einen Tagesausflug; für Kinder gibt es unter anderem einen Piratenspielplatz.
One of the remarkable buildings is Westport House that was designed by the architect Richard Cassels at the beginning of the 18th century on behalf of John Browne, and extended by James Wyatt. To get the space for the house and park, the original village Cathair na Mart with 700 inhabitants was flattened.
Westport House is still in the possession of the family Brown, who are also descendants of the famous and infamous Grace O'Malley (Gráinne Ní Mháille). The house and the estate (over 150 hectares) is the perfect target for a day-trip; the Pirate Adventure Park is especially for children.
