Als wir 2003 an einem Abend ein Restaurant suchen, kommen wir zur "Cock Tavern" (Hahnentaverne), die von sich behauptet, der älteste Pub von Irland zu sein (rückverfolgbar bis zu den 1390ern). Es ist innen rustikal eingerichtet, mit einer wahllos scheinenden Sammlung von Objekten. Das Essen ist gut und preiswert.
Zufällig kommen wir 2019 wieder an dem Gebäude vorbei. Der Pub ist geschlossen, Fenster und Türen sind mit Brettern verschlagen. Das war's dann mit dem "ältesten Pub". (Der Titel gehört nach aktuellem Wissenstand dem Brazen Head in Dublin.)
In 2003 while looking for a restaurant in the evening, we come to the "Cock Tavern", that claims to be the oldest pub in Ireland (traceble to the 1390s). On the inside it is furnished country-style with a seemingly random collection of objects. The food is good and inexpensive.
In 2019 by chance we pass the building again. The pub has closed down, windows and doors are nailed up with boards. So much for Ireland's oldest pub. (This title is held according to actual knowledge by the Brazen Head in Dublin.)
