Huegel der Geiseln / Mound of the Hostages
The Hill of the Hostages (Dumha na nGiall) is a Neolithic portal tomb (around 3000 to 2500 B. C - depending on the source) and the oldest structure in Tara. The name goes back to the custom that the kings of Tara took members of noble families as hostages to ensure the loyalty of these families.
The inside of the cairn is decorated with engraved stones.
