Anhoehe von Tara / Hill of Tara
Stein des Schicksals / Stone of Destiny
On the highest hill, the Seat of the Kings (Forradh), stands the Stone of Destiny (Lia Fáil, on the left in the picture), where the highkings are said to have been crowned until 500 A. D. According to legend, the stone made loud noises when a would-be highking was deemed worthy. The stone once stood beside the Hill of the Hostages, but was moved to mark the graves of 400 Irish rebels, which were killed in 1798 by the British.
The second stone is a headstone that was erected in 1938.
