Die erste Brücke über den Shannon in Carrick wurde 1683 gebaut, damals noch aus Holz. Den Brückenzoll durfte der Grundherr George St. George einheben, der dafür für die Erhaltung der Brücke aufkommen musste. 1717 entstand die erste steinerne Brücke. Als Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts die Schiffbarkeit des Shannon deutlich verbessert wurde, wurde die heute noch vorhandene Brücke gebaut, die mit größeren Bögen auch größeren Schiffen die Durchfahrt ermöglichte. Gleichzeitig wurde auch der Hafen erweitert und modernisiert.

The first bridge over the Shannon in Carrick was built in 1683 made from wood. The landlord George St. George was entitled to collect the bridge toll, but in turn had to pay for maintaining the bridge. In 1717 the first stone bridge was constructed. When the navigation of the Shannon was considerably improved in the middle of the 19th century the still existing bridge was built that allowed bigger ships to pass with bigger arches. At the same time also the harbour was extended and modernised.
