Schrein der Hl. Brigid / St. Brigid's Shrine

Am Fuße des Hügels von Faughart kommen wir zu einem Schrein, der der Hl. Bridig geweiht ist. Die Anlage ist recht groß und zeigt wie wichtig die Heilige in Irland ist - sie wird hier sogar als "Maria der Gälen" bezeichnet. Es gibt eine Andachtshalle und einen kleinen Pilgerweg, bei dem bei jeder Station genau beschrieben ist, was der Pilger tun muss, um Vergebung zu erlangen. Interessant ist nicht nur die Darstellung der Hl. Brigid mit einem Hirtenstab (was eigentlich ein Bischofsattribut ist), sondern auch, dass sie hier wörtlich höher gestellt wird als die Heiligen Patrick und Columban.

At the foot of the Hill of Faughart we come to a shrine that is sanctified to St. Brigid. The facility is rather large and shows how important the saint is in Ireland - she is even called "Mary of the Gaels" at this place. There is a devotion hall and a small pilgrim's way, where at every station there is a description what the pilgrim has to do to gain forgiveness. It is of interest that St. Brigid is not only depicted with a shepherd's staff (which is usually a bishop's attribute), but also that here she is literally placed above the Saints Patrick and Columb.
