Lord Limerick ließ im 17. Jahrhundert die Stadt neu anlegen. Im 19. Jahrhundert wurde Dundalk zu einer wichtigen Industriestadt, verlor diesen Status aber gegen Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts wieder. Mit dem Wirtschaftsaufschwung "Celtic Tiger" konnte Dundalk wieder an frühere Hochzeiten anschließen. Es gefällt uns hier recht gut. Im Stadtzentrum gibt es viele Geschäfte, Restaurants und Bars und in der Umgebung sind viele alte Sehenswürdigkeiten zu finden.
Am Marktplatz The Square steht das Gerichtsgebäude und das Rathaus, beide aus dem 19. Jahrhundert. Vor dem Gerichtsgebäude steht die "Maid of Eireann", die an den Aufstand von 1798 erinnert.
Lord Limerick had the town reconstructed in the 17th century. During the 19th century Dundalk became an important industry town, but lost that status at the end of the 20th century. With the economic boom named "Celtic Tiger" Dundalk could reconnect to former times of glory. We enjoy our visit very much. In the town centre there are many shops, restaurants and bars, and in the vicinity there are many old sites.
On the market place The Square stands the courthouse and the city hall, both from the 19th century. In front of the court house there is the "Maid of Eireann" commemorating the uprising of 1798.
