Kilteel Abtei / Kilteel Abbey

Vor der Ankunft der Normannen (spätes 12. Jahrhundert) gab es an dieser Stelle ein Kloster mit dem Namen 'Cell céli críst'. Nach ihrer Ankunft, ersetzte Maurice Fitzgerald das alte Kloster durch ein Ordenshaus des Ritterlichen Ordens Sankt Johannis vom Spital zu Jerusalem (kurz: Johanniter).
Das Kloster wurde unter Heinrich VIII aufgelöst und verfiel. Seine Überreste sind spärlich in der Landschaft verteilt.
Before the arrival of the Normans (late 12th century), there was a monastery named 'Cell céli críst' on this site. Shortly after their arrival, Maurice Fitzgerald replaced the old monastery by a preceptory of the Knights Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem.
The monastery was dissolved under Henry VIII and fell to ruins. Its remains are quite sparsely distributed over the landscape.
