Kirche zur Hl. Maria (anglikanisch) / St. Mary's Church (CoI)

(2019-10-01)

St. Mary's Church was built as the private chapel for the castle of the FitzGeralds. In 1248 it was made a prebend of St. Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin. In the 16th century it was consecrated as an Anglican church, but shared the fate of the castle. Against the end of the 18th century the church was renovated by James, 1st Duke of Leinster and opened to the public. Its walls still preserve a part of the old castle.
