Annaghdown Churches

Die alte Chronik "Buch von Ballymote" erzählt, dass im 6. Jahrhundert der Hl. Brendan bei Annaghdown (Eanach Dhúin - Festung bei den Marschen) ein Nonnenkloster für seine Schwester gründete. Historisch abgesichert ist dies jedoch nicht. Die heute noch erhaltene Kirche wurde zwar erst im 15. Jahrhundert erbaut, enthält aber ein Romanisches Fenster aus dem 12. Jahrhundert, das vermutlich von der nahegelegenen Priorei genommen wurde.

The old chronicles "Book of Ballymote" recounts that in the 6th century St. Brendan founded near Annaghdown (Eanach Dhúin - fortress of the marshes) a convent for his sister. This however is not historically secured. The still remaining church was built in the 15th century, yet contains a Romanesque window from the 12th century, possible taken from the near-by priory.
