Kirche zum Hl. Columba / St. Columba's Church
The kinsfolk of St. Columba are said to have live bear Churchtown (Ráth Cnó) close to Lough Gartan. His family gifted the saint with a piece of land, on which he founded a monastic settlement. Of this settlement nothing remains, all the ruins are from later epochs. The ground of the settlement is used as a cemetery. Which makes us again ponder why cemeteries so often have the best view.
At this location every year a pilgrimage (Turas) takes place, its stations are summarised in the following pages.
