Assaroe See / Assaroe Lough

(2017-07-22)

Assaroe Lough supplies the turbines of the lower barrage of the Ballyshannon Power Station. The lake is named after Áed Rúad, a High King or Ireland, who fell into the Assaroe waterfall and drowned. This waterfall (also called Cathaleen's fall) is described as very beautiful in old manuscripts. Alas, it was sacrificed for the construction of the power station.
