Glencolumbkille
Kirche zum Hl. Columba, Wallfahrtstation 1 / St. Columba's Church of Ireland, Turas Station 1
Not only St. Columba but also many other hermits were drawn to this remote area since the 6th century. Therefore it is no wonder that some of the more "modern" buildings stand on the ruins of older ringforts or churches. Like, under the graveyard of the Church of Ireland souterrains were found. The stones (on the picture) before the church are remains of a Meglithic tomb from about 5000 years ago. It is also the first station of the pilgrim's way (turas) through the valley.
