Der Leuchtturm wurde 1769 gebaut und ist der zweitälteste in Irland (nach Hook Head). Seine Bedeutung für die Seefahrt wurde 1860 auf Rockabill übertragen. Der Leuchtturm ist seit den 1960ern unbemannt und elektrifiziert.
The lighthouse was built in 1769 and is the second oldes of Ireland (after Hook Head). Its importance for seafaring was confered to Rockabill in 1860. Since the 1960s the lighthouse is unmanned and electrified.
