Das Gebäude wurde im Auftrag von Dan Lowrey, einem erfolgreichen Geschäftsmann in der Musikbranche, gebaut und 1879 als "Dan Lowrey's Star of Erin Music Hall" eröffnet. 1897 wurde es zu einem Theater ("The Empire Palace") umgebaut und - nach einem weiteren Umbau 1923 - in "The Olympia Theatre" umbenannt. In den 1960ern kaufe eine Gruppe von Geschäftsmännern das Theater und wollten es durch ein Bürogebäude ersetzen. Der Theaterproduzent Brendan Smith konnte das aber mit Hilfe einiger Mitkünstler verhindern. Über die Jahre traten hier bekannte Schauspieler wie Charlie Chaplin, Stan Laurel und Oliver Hardy, Alec Guinness, John Gielgud und Marcel Marceau, aber auch Musiker wie David Bowie und Adele vor ihr Publikum.
The building was constructed by order of Dan Lowrey, a successful businessman in the music branch and opened in 1879 as "Dan Lowrey's Star of Erin Music Hall". In 1897 it was reconstructed to a theatre ("The Empire Palace") and was later renamed - after another reconstruction in 1923 - to "The Olympia Theatre". In the 1960s a group of business men bought the theatre and wanted to replace it by an office block. However, the theatre producer Brendan Smith could prevent this with the help of a few comrades-in-arts. Over the years famous actors like Charlie Chaplin, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, Alec Guinness, John Gielgud and Marcel Marceau, but also musicians like David Bowie and Adele performed here for their audience.
