Schon in den 1990ern entstand der Bedarf nach einem Theater, wo die immer größer werdenden Bühnenproduktionen aufgeführt werden konnte. Mit der Erneuerung des Grand Canal Docks wurde ein passender Platz gefunden und das Grand Canal Theatre konnte 2010 eröffnet werden. Es ist mit 2.000 Sitzen das größte Theater Irlands. Bord Gáis Energy, einer der großen Energieversorger Irlands, erwarb 2012 die Namenrechte und so wurde das Theater in Bord Gáis Energy Theatre umbenannt.
Already in the 1990s the demand arose to have a theater where the constantly growing stage productions could be performed. With the recreation of the Grand Canal Docks a fitting place was found and in 2010 the Grand Canal Theatre was opened. It is with 2,000 seats the largest theater in Ireland. In 2012, Bord Gáis Energy - one of the large energy suppliers in Ireland - made a deal about the naming rights and so the theater is now called Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.
