George Boole (1815 - 1864) grew up in meanly conditions in Lincoln, England. As he only received a simple education, he had to acquire a lot of knowledge by himself. His work "On a General Method in Analysis" earned him the first gold price for mathmatics of the Royal Society in 1844. In 1847 the work "The Mathematical Analysis of Logic" followed, that contained the fundamentals of Boolean algebra and therefore laid the headstones for today's age of computers. The datatype "bool" or "boolean" that is one of the basic data types of many programming languages was named after him.

In 1849 Boole was appointed the first professor for mathmatics at Queen's College in Cork, where he lived until his marriage in 1855 in this small house (5 Grenville Place). In 1857 he became a Fellow of the Royal Society. Only 49 years in age, Boole died in December, 1864 from the implications of a pneumonia.
