Kathedrale zum Hl. Finbarr / St. Finbarr's Cathedral
St. Finbarr (Finn Barra - fair hair) founded here a monastery around 600 A.D. that became a renowned school. Finbarr died in 623 A.D. and is buried on the cemetery beside the present cathedral. The first cathedral was built in Medieval times and was heavily damaged during the siege of Cork in 1690. Therefore it was torn down in 1735 and replaced by a new building. But already in the 1860s William Burges was engaged to construct an even larger cathedral, which was completed about 15 years later in Gothic Revival style.
