Inmitten grüner Weiden und von Bäumen umringt liegt die anerkannte Quelle des Shannons (Lag na Sionna - Loch des Shannon) nahe der Stadt Glangevlin (Gleann Ghaibhle, CN) (R206 nach Norden). Da der Boden aus Kalkstein besteht wird sie aus Bächen gespeist, die weiter oben am Berg versickern.

Auf nur 152 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel macht sich der Shannon hier auf, um 368 Kilometer weiter bei Limerick (Luimneach) in das Meer zu fließen. Er ist der längste Fluss Irlands und der Britischen Inseln.

In the middle of green pastures and surrounded by trees lies the recognized source of the Shannon (Lag na Sionna - hollow of the Shannon) near the town of Glangevlin (Gleann Ghaibhle, CN) (R206 northwards). As the ground consists of limestone, it is fed by streams that disappear higher up in the mountains.

From only 152 metres above sea level the Shannon starts its way, until it flows into the sea in Limerick (Luimneach), 368 kilometres away. It is the longest river in Ireland and the British Islands.
