Caherconnell Ring Fort
Caherconnell (Cathair Chonaill - the ring fort of Connell) is researched since 2007 by systematically excavations. It was most likely built in the 10th or 11th century and was used until the 12th century. After that it was abandoned, but reused in the 15th century. In a hollow nearby (right picture) remains of a settlement from the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age were found.
Today the ring fort is accessible through the visitors' centre, where an audio-visual presentation tells us about the ring fort and the excavations.
